OUR STORY
While out for a walk eleven  years ago Judith and Kay came across a 'land for sale' sign on an old broken gate.  Being inquisitive/nosey we climbed the gate to investigate.  Before we had got half way down the concrete path we had decided that we just had to buy it!    Not easily put off by the big task ahead of rejuvenating the 10 acres it became a bit of a weekend project, as we both had demanding full time jobs, to remove the accumulated rubbish that had collected over the years and bring the land back to its former glory.  
 
Cynefin has a varied and interesting history. It was once part of the Ashburnham Estate and evidence can still be seen of the old carriageway along our boundary which was where the ladies were brought out into the country in horse drawn carriages or, as some local historians believe,  was it a pathway for the smugglers to come from the coast to a well known nearby smugglers cottage?   Lines of old oak trees still line the carriageway. In the 1960's and 1970's the land was part of a very large commercial chicken farm raising 'free range chicken', but in sheds in those days. It has taken a lot of hard work and effort to remove all traces of this!  Today we are thrilled that this once misused land is now a haven for wildlife.
